This site is a free resource funded by display advertising. That funding model is the reason most of the data described below gets collected, so it is worth reading the advertising section even if you skip the rest.
What we collect
What you send us. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, your message, and any photos you attach. We keep it long enough to answer you and to correct the article your question relates to, then we delete it. We do not add you to a mailing list.
What is collected automatically. Our web host keeps standard server logs: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. These logs exist for security and troubleshooting and are rotated on the host’s schedule.
Cookies. Cookies are small files stored by your browser. The ones this site relies on are described in the sections below, and you can review or change your choices at any time on the Opt-out preferences page.
Advertising
Google is a third-party vendor on this site and uses cookies to serve ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies allows it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Wall Fix Guide and to other sites on the internet.
- You can turn off personalized advertising in Google’s Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of a large number of other vendors at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org.
Third-party vendors and ad networks may also place their own cookies through the ad slots. We do not control those cookies and we never receive the data they collect.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see which pages actually help readers and which ones fail them. IP addresses are anonymized. We look at aggregate reports, not at individuals, and we do not try to identify you.
Your choices
Your browser lets you block or delete cookies, and the Opt-out preferences page lets you change what you allowed at any time. Blocking advertising cookies does not remove the ads; it makes them less relevant.
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, to have it corrected, to opt out of the sale or sharing of that information, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of those rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. Serving personalized ads does, however, count as sharing under California law. Use the Opt-out preferences page, or email us, and we will act on the request.
Children
Wall Fix Guide is written for adults repairing their own homes. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, admin access is limited and rate-limited, and backups are encrypted. No system is perfect, so please do not send us anything sensitive: we only need photos of your wall.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage for a few weeks.
